Al-Ghazali

***** April 1 ***** Neglect not your time, nor use it haphazardly; on the contrary you should bring yourself to account. Structure your litanies and other practices during each day and night. This is how to bring about the spiritual blessing (baraka) in each period. If each of your breaths is a priceless jewel, Be not like the deceived fools who are joyous because each day their wealth increases while their life grows ever shorter. Al-Ghazali ***** April 2 ***** If the first inward thought is not warded off, it will generate a desire, then the desire will generate a wish, and the wish will generate an intention, and the intention will generate the action, and the action will result in ruin and divine wrath. So evil must be cut off at its root, which is when it is simply a thought that crosses the mind, from which all the other things follow on. Al-Ghazali ***** April 3 ***** The way to paradise is an uphill climb whereas hell is downhill...

Ibn Arabi

***** March 1 ***** How can the heart travel to God, when it is chained by its desires? Ibn Arabi ***** March 2 ***** Do not praise your own faith exclusively so that you disbelieve all the rest. If you do this you will miss much good. Nay, you will miss the whole truth of the matter. God, the Omniscient and the Omnipresent, cannot be confined to any one creed, for He says in the Quran, wheresoever ye turn, there is the face of Allah. Everybody praises what he knows. His God is his own creature, and in praising it, he praises himself. Which he would not do if he were just, for his dislike is based on ignorance. Ibn Arabi ***** March 3 ***** God sleeps in the rock, dreams in the plant, stirs in the animal, and awakens in man. Ibn Arabi ***** March 4 ***** My heart can take on any form: A meadow for gazelles, A cloister for monks, For the idols, sacred ground, Ka'ba for the circling pilgrim, The tables of the Torah, The sc...
