  • 1475 - Stephen III of Moldavia defeated the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Vaslui. 
  • 1916 - World War I: In the Erzurum Offensive, Russia defeated the Ottoman Empire.
  • 1920 - The Treaty of Versailles took effect, officially ending World War I.
  • 1966 - Tashkent Declaration, a peace agreement between India and Pakistan that resolved the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 was signed. 
  • 1972 - Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to the newly independent Bangladesh as president after spending over nine months in prison in Pakistan. 
  • 2007 - A general strike began in Guinea in an attempt to get President Lansana Conte to resign.
  • 2012 - A bombing at Jamrud, in Pakistan, killed at least 30 people and injured 78 others.
  • 2013 - More than 100 people were killed and 270 were injured in several bomb blasts in the Quetta area of Pakistan.
  • 2015 - A traffic accident between an oil tanker truck and passenger coach en route to Shikarpur from Karachi on the Pakistan National Highway Link Road near Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Karachi, killed at least 62 people.

  • 626 - Husayn ibn Ali, the third Shia Imam (d. 680)

Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (b. January 10, 626 CC – d. October 10, 680) was a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad and a son of Ali ibn Abi Talib (the fourth caliph of Sunni Muslims and the first imam of Shia Muslims) and Muhammad's daughter Fatimah.  He is an important figure in Islam as he was a member of the Household of Muhammad (Ahl al-Baytand the People of the Cloak (Ahl al-Kisa'), as well as the third Shi'a Imam.
